A new major is about to be announced in the cannabis market in Ontario – the opening of the system for the licensing of cannabis. Ontario, the most populous province in Cannada, has failed in its attempt to introduce a private, open-label retail model with its lottery system.

Until now, only 24 stores had been successful, which did not prevent the province from being first in cannabis sales in the country with a total of $ 217 million.

The rumor is that there could be up to 1000 licenses allocated which would be a major new for the market that suffers from the lack of point of sale across Canada.

EDIT : Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario (AGCO) just updates application process for cannabis retail licensing available below

Companies like HEXO (TSX: HEXO, NYSE: HEXO) with its “Original Stash” product, which sells at a fast pace, could be among the big winners of this change. We must not forget that nothing is confirmed for the moment but announcements should be made soon.
